NEW DELHI, May 6 -- India saw a 34 per cent drop in its edible oil imports in April 2020 compared with the same month a year ago as the coronavirus pandemic hit shipping and logistics services.
Month-on-month, the country’s edible oil imports declined to 790,377 tonnes compared with 941,219 tonnes in March, a Mumbai-based industry group said on Wednesday.
"The drop in April 2020 is mainly due to logistics issues at destinations as well as at discharge ports," the Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA) of India said.

Palm oil imports last month totalled 385,260 tonnes, representing a 24 per cent drop compared with April 2019.
India's refined palm oil imports plummeted since the government put refined, bleached and deodorised (RBD) palmolein under the "restricted" goods category in January.
RBD palmolein imports in April 2020 stood at 29,750 tonnes compared with 238,479 tonnes in April 2019.
