  • The Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) is the custodian of the rubber industry in Malaysia. Established on 1 January 1998, it has under its fold three well established agencies (RRIM, MRRDB and MRELB), which are now merged into one, which have contributed significantly to the development of the rubber industry for the last 94 years.

  • The R&D excellence in NR, accomplished by the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRIM), has had an impact on the Malaysian NR industry and other NR producing countries.The primary objective of MRB is to assist in the development and modernisation of the Malaysian rubber industry in all aspects from cultivation of the rubber tree, the extraction and processing of its raw rubber, the manufacture of rubber products and the marketing of rubber and rubber products.

  • The National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) was established on 1 April 2010 through the enforcement of the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board Act 2009 [Act 692] to realize the objectives, policies and priorities of the country in developing and administering the kenaf industry regularly in line with the strengthening of the kenaf industry's development policy as a new source of growth.

  • The implementation of Act 692 has abolished the National Tobacco Board (Incorporation) Act 1973 [Act 111] simultaneously with the dissolution and transition of the LTN function to LKTN. Act 692 aims to provide for the kenaf and tobacco industry as well as to provide for matters connected therein.

  • MPOC is a Council under the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities.  Established in 1990, its role is to promote market expansion of Malaysian palm oil and its products in the global markets. This is pursued by enhancing the image and demand for Malaysian palm oil through awareness of various techno-economic advantages and environmental sustainability of the commodity.

  • MPOC has set up a network of ten offices all over the world namely in China (Shanghai), India (Mumbai), Pakistan (Lahore), Bangladesh (Dhaka), Middle East (Istanbul and Cairo), Europe (Brussels and Moscow), South Africa (Johannesburg) and Americas (Washington, D.C.), to promote Malaysian palm oil and provide services to its customers.

  • The Malaysian palm oil industry is one of the main pillars of the economy. In 2020, it contributed RM 72.8 billion in export earnings and accounted for 26% and 34% of the world’s palm oil production and exports, respectively.

  • Established in 1998, the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) is an independent organisation tasked to develop and operate the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS). As a voluntary national scheme, the MTCS provides for independent assessment of forest management practices and audit of timber product manufacturers or exporters to ascertain that the timber products manufactured or exported are sourced from sustainably managed forests. This is to ensure the sustainable management of Malaysia’s natural forest and forest plantations, as well as to meet the demand for certified timber products.                  

  • The MTCS has been endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the largest forest certification programme, representing more than 300 million hectares of certified forests worldwide. The MTCS is the first tropical timber certification scheme in the Asia Pacific region to be endorsed by the PEFC. 

  • As of 31 December 2020, 5.27 million hectares of forests have been certified under the MTCS, comprising 22 forest management units (FMU) and eight forest plantation management units (FPMU), while 386 companies were certified under chain of custody (CoC) certification.

  • In 2020, MTCC has marked another milestone when it was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation (Gold Award) from the PEFC for the greatest increase in PEFC-certified forest area at the virtual PEFC Awards Ceremony on 11 November 2020. The recognition was given to MTCC for the marked increase of 957,583 ha of MTCS/PEFC-certified forest area from September 2019 to September 2020.
