KUCHING: The People’s Republic of China hopes that Malaysia will continue to be the primary exporter of palm oil.
Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in revealing this, said Malaysia needed to explore the potential of making its palm oil products more widely available internationally. “We hope that a series of measures will entice more foreign investments into the country and create opportunities for our local domestic industry players,” he said in a Facebook post recently.

On Tuesday, the Bintulu MP met up with Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali in Putrajaya. “In view of accelerating the development of the palm oil sector to create high-value and large-scale output of local products, we need to explore the potential of making Malaysian palm oil products more widely available.
“During our meeting, I took the opportunity to convey the hope of The People’s Republic of China that Malaysia will continue to be a chief exporter of palm oil. “China also believes that barter trade can be a worthwhile method to consider for mutual benefit and a win-win arrangement,” he said.
Tiong said, under such a model, it would be a boon to greater economic development for the nation. He said also discussed with the Minister on the collaboration between Malaysia and China on palm oil trade that would exceed RM2 billion a year.
“We expect that both countries can continue to maintain our long-standing cooperation to forge deeper partnerships in local infrastructure projects. “Let’s join our hands towards economic recovery and development,” he said.
