KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Plantation Bhd (SD Plantation) offers defensive qualities such as land rich balance sheet and decent gearing, and is a beneficiary of food inflation as edible oils and fats prices have risen substantially compared to a year ago, Kenanga Research said.
The firm expects the supply of the world's leading vegetable oils, palm and soybean to pick up seasonally in the second half (2H) of 2022.

KUDAT (April 5): As of February this year, 69 Sustainable Oil Palm Growers Cooperatives (KPSM) have been established throughout the country, said Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng.
“Of this this total, 24 KPSM (smallholders) are in the peninsula, 27 in Sabah and 18 in Sarawak.

THE issue of labour shortage in oil palm plantations in the country has been getting the attention of the media lately. Measures are already in place to address the issue and strategies are being formulated to ensure the competitiveness and sustainability of the Malaysian palm oil industry.
The oil palm plantation sector which relies heavily on labour, particularly for maintenance activities and harvesting of fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) faced severe labour shortage during the Covid-19 pandemic in the past two years as foreign workers had to leave the country.
