PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (Margma) expects global demand for rubber gloves this year to be at 452 billion pieces, which translates to 14,333 gloves being used every second.
During an industry briefing yesterday, it said it projects an annual year-on-year growth of between 12% and 15% for the export volume of gloves. However, there is no projected export revenue for Malaysia due to the volatility of the market.
KUALA LUMPUR (June 7): Rubber industry players need to diversify into non-medical areas to continue to be among the main contributors to the economy moving forward, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said.
She said during the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysia emerged among top global exporters of medical rubber gloves due to the country’s ability to meet growing demand.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian rubber market, supported by China’s better-than-expected gross domestic product (GDP) data and firmer crude oil prices, closed higher yesterday amid mixed advice from its regional peers, according to a dealer.
He said market players also reacted to the lower February rubber output reported by the Statistics Department last Friday and a weaker ringgit against the US dollar.
