KUALA LUMPUR: Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd has paid RM29 million of remediation fee to its migrant workers as of June 10 this year.

"Kossan has decided to accelerate the payment of the balance remediation fee in a lump sum payment amounting to RM25 million by the end of June 2021.

"Kossan remains committed to upholding responsible recruitment practices in-line with our zero-cost recruitment policy," the company said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.

On October 1 last year, Kossan announced that it haf finalised its remediation plan after extensively investigating the situation and consulting multiple stakeholders.

Rubber glove manufacturers have since the middle of 2020 come under scrutiny over their labour management practices.

In July 2020, the US Customs and Border Protection imposed a detention order on imports from two of Top Glove Corp Bhd's subsidiaries, Top Glove Sdn Bhd and TG Medical Sdn Bhd, placing the companies on its withhold release order list.

The seizure, the regulator said, was due to information that the gloves were allegedly made by forced labour.

On Tuesday, Hartalega Holdings Bhd announced that it had completed the remediation of recruitment fees, amounting to RM41 million.
