KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has appointed Machang Member of Parliament Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub as its new chairman effective yesterday.Ahmad’s appointment was announced by the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Khairuddin Aman Razali.
Ahmad replaces Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh who served until March 31, 2020.


MPOB director-general Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir said the management is confident that with Ahmad’s experience, who was the former Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, will lead the MPOB Board to further the national agenda of the sustainable development of palm oil industry.
The management of MPOB said it was grateful for Mohd Bakke’s valuable contributions and guidance during his two years as MPOB chairman.
MPOB said palm oil industry is the country's largest plantation commodity and is one of the major contributors to the country's export earnings.
With an area of 5.9 million hectares and smallholders contributing 40 per cent of the country's oil palm production, the growth of the palm oil industry has increased the socio-economic of smallholders and rural populations.
