PUTRAJAYA, April 1-- The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) today received one million rubber gloves to help its personnel in JBPM's efforts to tackle COVID-19.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said the gloves would be used by JBPM personnel in carrying out the sanitisation exercise at public areas and People's Housing Project areas.
“As of yesterday, the JBPM has carried out sanitation operations at 85 areas,” she told reporters after receiving the gloves from the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali.

On the sanitisation exercise which was claimed to have been carried out without following the standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH), Zuraida said it was referring to the SOP concerning crowd control.
Meanwhile, JBPM director-general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid said the operations were carried out in collaboration with SWCorp concession companies
“In the operations, we disperse the disinfectant mist on road shoulders as well as areas near pedestrian facilities,” he said adding that solution was sprayed onto road for fear of there were droplets from an infected person on the surfaces.
It was reported that former deputy Health director-general Prof Datuk Dr Lokman Hakim Sulaiman has raised concern over disinfection operation where disinfectant liquid was sprayed onto road surfaces which he described as a waste of money.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Hamdan said the 85 areas that had been sanitised were among the 255 areas identified as red, orange and yellow zones by the MOH.
